We have been in touch with Keri of The Deck Dude as he has recently completed some amazing projects using Owatrol products. Take a look at this amazing garden decking and fencing restored with Owatrol products, to see why we wanted to showcase him and his amazing work!
The decking and bench are yellow balau and the fencing/cladding is cedar. Yellow balau is a hardwood, whereas cedar is a softwood. Both are beautiful and thanks to Owatrol’s formula, Keri could use the same finishing product on both wood types (one in Clear and one in our Rustic Oak shade), to give a uniform finish.
We think you will agree the finished results are absolutely stunning.

Products used
To get these results, Keri used Prepdeck, Net-Trol & Textrol. The fencing/cladding and bench did not require the use of Prepdeck. This is because there was no previous finish to remove, so all that was required was a deep clean with Net-Trol before an application of a protective finish, in this case, Textrol.
The decking required the use of Prepdeck first to remove the original coating, followed by Net-Trol and then finally an application of Textrol.
Prepdeck

Prepdeck is essentially a three-in-one product. Its main purpose, when used undiluted, is as an effective way to prepare a wooden surface for further treatment. It strips away existing finishes along with stains, marks, and grade stamps.
When used diluted, Prepdeck can also reduce mill glaze on new wood surfaces, to help prepare it for a penetrative finish.
Diluted Prepdeck can also be used as a powerful wood cleaner, with the ability to get rid of even the most difficult marks and stains.
Net-Trol

It’s fast-acting and can restore the original colour of your wood surface in as little as 15 minutes. Effortlessly removing both surface and ground-in dirt, leaving the wood looking bright, vibrant and ready for your chosen protective finish.
Net-Trol can also be used as a neutraliser after application of a stripping product such as Prepdeck, Aquanett or Dilunett.
Textrol

Available in a wide variety of sizes and 8 colours (including clear), Textrol enhances the beauty of the wood whilst also protecting it from the damaging effects of moisture, weathering and UV rays, with a mildew-resistant matt finish.
Maintenance is also very easy, with just a clean and single application coat needed once every 3 – 4 years.
The Deck Dude used the shade ‘Clear’ for the fencing/cladding and the shade ‘Rustic Oak’ for the decking.
Testimonial
Don’t just take our word for it. Here’s what Keri of The Deck Dude had to say about Owatrol:
I was recommended the Owatrol range of products by the legend Thomas Rathbone of TRCS and decking decor. I learnt everything I know from Thomas! Our first project was in 2022 so we’re still quite new to the timber restoration profession, however have already had some really big wins on rejuvenating timber in our client’s gardens.
On this project, the client had used a black stain in the past on the yellow balau deck. I used Prepdeck to strip off the old stain and Net-Trol to neutralise the Prepdeck. I then used Net-Trol again to give the deck another clean. The fence I only had to clean with Net-Trol.
I see a lot of timber being cleaned with a high pressure power washer without a product to clean. This often leads to damage to the timber and long term the timber degrades more quickly. You can use the power washer on a much lower setting when using Net-Trol.
We chose Textrol in Clear for the cedar fence as the cedar had cleaned up really well. The deck with its grooved side laid up didn’t have the greatest finish so we used Textrol in Rustic Oak as the darker tint helped mask the imperfections.
We hope you found this Battersea garden decking and fencing restored with Owatrol post interesting.
